Boston LGV Training LTD is a company that is big enough to cope with all aspects of driver tuition, yet small enough to give all the care and support a trainee needs to get through a B+E test.
We pride ourselves on professional tuition with excellent pass rates. Our instructors are experienced, fully qualified and come from professional driving backgrounds. All instructors are DSA registered and have gone through very stringent driving tests and also a test on their instructional ability. In-structors are chosen for their skill, patience and friendliness.
B+E Category Licence
Drivers who passed their tests after 1st January 1997 are not legal to tow a trailer over 750kg and therefore will need to pass an additional test in order to gain the B+E entitlement.
Objectives
This is a practical driving course, training is in accordance with the DSA B+E syllabus. All trainees will receive tuition in all aspects relating to the B+E trailer test. The test is taken at the end of the training course.
The Course
Our training courses are tailored to suit the individual and will cover all off road manoeuvring, reversing, uncoupling & re-coupling and the braking exercise. The B+E test is bases on the LGV test which we specialise in. The course offers all the practical experience you will need to safety tow a trailer and pass the test.
What do I need?
A full driving licence for a car. This will give you provisional entitlement for towing a trailer. We supply everything else; all course material, safety questions - answers, information booklet. Also, the training vehicle and trailer.
The B+E Test
Drivers seeking the B+E entitlement should be experienced and technically expert. At the beginning of the test you will be asked 5 vehicle related safety questions which will be a combination of “show me” and “tell me.” You will then do the set exercises which will include a “S” shaped reverse into a bay, a braking exercise. At the end of the test you will be asked to uncouple and re-couple. The drive on the road will last about 60 minutes; the overall test takes about 90 minutes.
All examiners are trained to carry out the test to the same standard, they do not have pass or fail quotas. So as long as you demonstrate the standard required you will pass your driving test.
Why do I need to take the test?
If your tow large trailers, caravans, boats or horse boxes and do not have the correct entitlement on your licence you be risking a heavy fine, points on your licence and also you insurance will not be valid.
